What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the most common digestive disorder.  It is estimated that about one in every five adults has symptoms of IBS.   Twice as many women suffer from the condition as men.

In IBS, the normal rhythm of muscular contractions of the digestive tract becomes irregular and uncoordinated.  This interferes with the normal movement of food and waste material. The result is the accumulation of mucus and toxins in the intestine.  The accumulated material partially obstructs the digestive tract, trapping gas and faecal matter, which in turn causes bloating, distension and constipation.  IBS may affect the entire gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth through to the colon.

Common Causes of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

Causes may be lifestyle factors such as stress and a diet filled with bread, raw meat and sugars, low fibre diet and even hormonal changes in women.  Food allergies may also play a role.  The overuse of antibiotics, antacids or laxatives which disturb the bacterial micro flora of the bowel, may also play a role in the cause of IBS. Whether an individual with IBS eats normally or not, malnutrition may result because the nutrients are often not absorbed properly.

Symptoms of IBS include:

Changes in Bowel Movement ( Constipation / Diarrhea )
Pain and Discomfort when to eating
   Bladder Discomfort or problems
   Bloating and excess gas
   Anxiety or Depression
   Food Intolerances
   Lower Back Pain
   Abdominal Pain
   Mucus in Stool
   Bad Breath
   Heartburn
   Flatulence
   Nausea
   Fatigue

Many other disorders may be related to IBS, including Candidiasis, malabsorption disorders, pancreatic insufficiency, ulcers and parasitic infections

When we consider that a properly functioning digestive tract is at the basis of good health, it is not surprising that a neglected digestive tract may be the cause of illnesses such as Diabetes, Cancer and even heart disease.  Therefore, for optimal health, it is extremely important to do a complete Colon Cleanse for 3 months, at least once a year.
